So, Why Would God's Design Include Malaria In The First Place?

University of Chicago biologist Jerry Coyne reviews Lehigh University biochemist Michael J. Behe's latest attempted defense of Intelligent Design, The Edge of Evolution: The Search for the Limits of Darwinism. To no one's surprise, he is unimpressed.

Anonymous makes an interesting point.

I had hoped that after the court case Behe and his clan would crawl into a hole and we would not need to deal with the same tired old arguments. Oh well.

This is a perfect example of why many scientists consider arguing against creationism a waste of time. Behe finally looks deeply enough and realizes all the fundamentals of evolution are correct, except for this one minor part he can't fathom. He is now high in my pantheon of intellectually dishonest scholars.

Doesn't he, though?

I believe it was C.S. Lewis who, obviously in a different context and with a different agenda, told the story of the man possessed by ten demons. Jesus comes up to him and offers to drive the demons out. The man is overjoyed, then thinks for a minute and says, "If it's okay with you, Lord, could you just drive out nine?"
